Pharmaceutical Hypromellose Acetate Succinate (HPMCAS)

Uquick Hypromellose acetate succinate (HPMCAS, also known as hydroxypropyl methylcellulose acetate succinate) is a cellulose ester commonly used as an enteric coating agent for solid dosage forms in the pharmaceutical industry.
CAS number: 71138-97-1

Pharmaceutical Grade Hypromellose Acetate Succinate (HPMCAS)

Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose acetate (HPMCAS) is a polymer proven effective in treating autoimmune diseases. It serves as a model system for exploring polymer-protein interactions. This polymer’s structure includes hydroxypropyl, succinoyl, and acetate components. Its anhydrous sodium content and amorphous characteristics enable it to form hydrogen bonds with other polymers and proteins.

Chemical Properties

Uquick HPMCAS is a white to off-white powder or granules with a faint acetic odor and nearly no taste. It is available in different grades based on dissolution pH and particle size.

HPMCAS Applications in Pharmaceutical

01

Aqueous Coating Dispersion

Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose acetate succinate (HPMCAS) is an excellent polymer used for enteric coating of solid dosage forms such as tablets, pellets, and capsules.

02

Ammonia-fully neutralized enteric coating formulation

To avoid surfactants and plasticizers, HPMCAS can be fully neutralized to dissolve in water, forming a transparent solution. Ammonia is found to be the best neutralizing agent, as it can be removed in the drying step.

Solvent Based Coating

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose Acetate Succinate (HPMCAS) is an excellent polymer used for enteric coating of solid dosage forms (tablets, pills, capsules).

In addition to aqueous coating formulations, HPMCAS can also be used in organic formulations because it is soluble in a variety of organic solvents.
