Pharmaceutical Grade High-Substituted Hydroxypropyl Cellulose(H-HPC)

H-HPC can act as a binding agent in pharmaceutical applications such as tablet and granule formation, thereby improving the durability and rigidity of tablets. Thanks to its exceptional film-forming characteristics, H-HPC can create robust and elastic films, positioning it as an excellent choice for film coating materials.

Pharmaceutical Grade High-Substituted Hydroxypropyl Cellulose(H-HPC)

Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), a non-ionic cellulose ether, is produced by reacting alkali cellulose with propylene oxide. It’s categorized into low-substituted (L-HPC) and high-substituted (H-HPC) types based on the degree of hydroxypropyl substitution. L-HPC, with 9%-15% substitution, exhibits good flowability and compressibility, making it ideal as a disintegrant and binder in tablets. H-HPC, with around 60% substitution, offers excellent solubility and viscosity, making it a preferred thickener, emulsifier, and film-forming agent.

White, odorless, tasteless powder.

Soluble in water and various organic solvents like ethanol and acetone at room temperature; solutions are clear.

Excellent film-forming properties.

H-HPC is a good thermoplastic material with excellent film-forming properties. The films are tough, glossy, and highly elastic.

low ash content.

With very low ash content, this product has excellent adhesion properties. It is highly stable when used as an emulsion thickener and has good dispersibility.

Strong antibacterial properties.

The substituent groups in H-HPC are evenly and fully distributed, giving it strong antibacterial properties. It also has a low equilibrium moisture content.

  • As a Binder in Pharmaceuticals In the pharmaceutical industry, High-Substituted Hydroxypropyl Cellulose(H-HPC) is primarily used as a binder in tablets, granules, and granular materials. Its usage typically ranges from 1% to 5% of the total weight of the medication. HPC can enhance the stability and hardness of tablets, and its dissolution time is superior to tablets using other materials as binders. This makes HPC an important component for optimizing drug formulations and improving drug release performance.
  • Coating material for tablets High-substituted Hydroxypropyl Cellulose, often abbreviated as H-HPC, is frequently employed as a film coating material for tablet formulations in the pharmaceutical industry. It exhibits exceptional film-forming properties, which yield a film that is not only tough but also elastic, comparable in quality to films produced using plasticizers. One of the notable characteristics of H-HPC is its ability to maintain a remarkably low equilibrium moisture content.
