What is RDP Powder?
RDP powder, developed by Mr. Wacker in the 20th century, is a water-soluble, free-flowing, dispersible polymer powder produced by spray drying. This ethylene vinyl acetate latex powder with special polyvinyl alcohol as the protective colloid can quickly disperse in water and form an emulsion. RDP latex powder is made of dispersible colloids, polymeric resins, additives, protective colloids, anti-caking agents, etc. It is widely used as a binder in building materials due to its outstanding ability to improve the adhesion, flexibility, alkali resistance, flexural strength, waterproofness, plasticity, and wear resistance of mortar.
What is the TG value?
1. TG(Glass Transition Temperature) refers to the temperature at which amorphous polymer, including the amorphous portion of crystalline polymer, changes from a glass state to a highly elastic state. At this point, the material changes from a rigid solid state to a flexible, rubber-like state. The polymer exhibits elasticity above this temperature and brittleness below it.
2. RDP latex powder with a TG value below 0℃ is what we call flexible RDP Powder, while those with a TG value above 10℃ are a rigid type. The flexible latex powder with low TG value is widely used in projects needing movement tolerance, such as exterior mortars, flexible tile adhesives, or mortars over plywood. Conversely, the latter would be ideal in applications requiring structural stability, such as tile adhesive for stable surfaces, self-leveling compounds, or rigid mortars.

With a Glass Transition Temperature of 15℃, Accurate 5011N can serve as an alternative to Vinnapas 5010N. Mortar with a small amount of 5011N powder exhibits high adhesion, cohesion, wear resistance, workability, and stability in alkaline environments.
This rigid RDP additive is particularly suitable for tile adhesive, both interior and exterior wall putty, self-leveling compounds, and gypsum-based plastering materials.
Accurate Redispersible Latex Powder 5045N
Accurate Redispersible Latex Powder 8035H
WACKER Vinnapas 8034H can be replaced by Accurate 8035H with a TG value of -12℃. This flexible polymer powder product imparts excellent hydrophobicity to the mortar and does not affect the water vapor permeability of the material during normal usage. Mortar mixed with 8035H will not become difficult to mix with water after long-term storage. It also provides enhanced water resistance, allowing the mortar to quickly restore strength.
So with all that, Accurate 8035H redispersible polymer powder is optimal for mortar in contact with steel that demands high water repellency, including waterproof mortar, tile grout, cement-based self-leveling compounds, and skim coat.
