La celulosa es la espina dorsal estructural de las plantas, la materia que compone la madera y el algod\u00f3n. El HEC se crea modificando este pol\u00edmero natural con grupos hidroxietilos, lo que lo hace f\u00e1cilmente soluble en agua. Este proceso de modificaci\u00f3n confiere al HEC propiedades \u00fanicas que resultan muy beneficiosas en aplicaciones de fluidos de perforaci\u00f3n. <\/p>\n<p>Es esencialmente un agente espesante, como la maicena en la salsa, pero con funciones a\u00f1adidas espec\u00edficamente adaptadas al exigente entorno de un pozo de perforaci\u00f3n. Aumenta la viscosidad del fluido de perforaci\u00f3n, ayudando a suspender los recortes de perforaci\u00f3n y a controlar la p\u00e9rdida de fluido en la formaci\u00f3n circundante. Sin un control adecuado de las p\u00e9rdidas de fluido, la fase l\u00edquida del fluido de perforaci\u00f3n puede filtrarse en estas formaciones, lo que da lugar a varios problemas:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n    <li><b>Da\u00f1o de formaci\u00f3n:<\/b> La invasi\u00f3n de filtrado de fluido de perforaci\u00f3n puede alterar la permeabilidad y humectabilidad de la formaci\u00f3n, reduciendo su potencial para producir petr\u00f3leo o gas.<\/li>\n    <li><b>Inestabilidad del pozo:<\/b> La p\u00e9rdida de fluido puede debilitar las paredes del pozo, aumentando el riesgo de colapso o desprendimiento.<\/li>\n    <li><b>Pegado diferencial:<\/b> La barra de perforaci\u00f3n puede atascarse contra la pared del pozo debido al diferencial de presi\u00f3n creado por la p\u00e9rdida de fluido.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>El HEC ayuda a minimizar la p\u00e9rdida de fluido aumentando la viscosidad del fluido en el frente del pozo y formando una torta de filtraci\u00f3n. Esta torta de filtraci\u00f3n act\u00faa como barrera, impidiendo la invasi\u00f3n excesiva de fluido en la formaci\u00f3n.
